Happy 42 Singapore !
wow, our nation is going to be 42 years old in about 2 days time.
I remember that when I was in primary school (14-19 years ago), I look forward to my school's national day celebration . Not only meant that we could go home earlier, get souveniers, watch performances but because I love to sing the national day songs ! Songs like " STand up for Singapore", "There was a time", "Chan Mali Chan " were my favourites.
There were also some other chinese, malay , tamil songs...but I can't remember the lyrics.
Now, things have changed over the years, even the songs we sing. For year 2007, our NDP theme songs are "Will You" & "There's no place I'd rather be"
What I like about national days songs is that they are all very meaningful. This year, my favourite is "There's no place I'd rather be", because I really feel that no matter where I go, I'd rather be at home, and Singapore is my home. The furthest Ive went out of Singapore were to Korea and Japan with my family, but when I get back to Singapore, I feel so glad ! It makes me appreciates being born in Singapore.
Do you like any of the songs? Remember 2006's "Reach out for the skies" ? That's also my favourite.
Share with us about your favourite national day song , will you ?
How are national day celebrations like now in your school ? Share with us here.
